You can read some of my earlier pieces for my take of the Extraction Class and Christian Nationalists’ common goals and where they diverge. They have a lot more in common than you may think.
But Project 2025 isn’t a distraction—it’s a vehicle. It’s the formal implementation plan that gives that authoritarian vision a bureaucratic and legal roadmap.
I think of Project 2025 as the scaffolding. It’s not the only structure being built, but it’s one the public can still disrupt, challenge, or slow down—because it’s out in the open. That’s why it matters so much to name it clearly and show what it actually does.
Yes—I’ve written about this too, and it actually reinforces why Project 2025 is so important to focus on. It’s not the only plan, but it’s the one they’ve formalized into policy. That makes it actionable—and vulnerable to exposure.
Feeling grateful at least that I’m being heard on this platform - whilst the action seems to be on Facebook they’re censoring so hard it’s time to diversify and boycott them at some point too
Im not from USA but following actively and still putting the jigsaw together and they’re making life miserable and difficult on top of this crisis
They are putting pressure on the Australian government and we have elections early may
Watched the Vaught undercover video. It has a much greater impact when hearing him say the quiet part out loud, than reading it on the page. Wow. Everyone in America should see this. And how closely he is connected to trump and JD Vance. Because getting rid of trump won’t solve this existential threat to America. People need yo understand that.
I hear you—and I’m not discounting it. I’ve written about Yarvin, Thiel, Andreessen, and the broader ideological web behind this. But what makes Project 2025 different is that it’s not theoretical. It’s their plan, formalized. It’s what turns ideas into policy—and gives the public something to push against before it’s too late. That’s why I’m focusing there.
Yes it is chillingly detailed. Step by step and inch by inch. And what I find fascinating is that the Project 2025 stuff is boring, bureaucratic and so so under the radar of most news reports. Meanwhile the trump fascist clown circus draws all the attention and all the critical fire. And I think some people think the circus is so outrageous that they can’t take it seriously and think it will self-destruct. Meanwhile the underlying structures of democracy are broken or demolished entirely. And long after trump is in his grave the damage to democratic society will remain.
Me too. But as heavy as this moment feels, the uncertainty also means nothing is set in stone. There’s still room to act, to push back, and to change what comes next.
I feel your timeline is way too conservative for the current Blitzkrieg. My head is spinning as I awake every morning to discover the chaos that has befallen us since I last checked. Move fast and break things is an understatement amiright? I used to say we’re sliding into authoritarianism but now I feel like we’re in freefall. Please tell me I’m overreacting.
You’re not overreacting, you’re paying attention. I included a note at the top of the piece that this isn’t a forecast but a framework. A lot of this is already unfolding. But naming it clearly helps us stay grounded enough to push back, even when it feels like freefall.
As I’m reading your (much appreciated) reply, I’m watching Jamieson Greer testify on the tariffs. He seems intelligent and reasonable but as soon as the Senators start really holding his feet to the fire MY GOD the spin, the reframing, the bobbing and weaving. Trump may be a buffoon but he’s got some highly intelligent albeit sociopathic predatory types propping him up.
I agree it’s happening way way faster than we could have expected. Ironic that Project 2025 is unfolding so efficiently and with no fanfare while the daily chaotic fascist shit show takes up all media attention.
I see it. I read it. And still—I think the timeline offered is far too generous.
What’s described as a slow, decade-by-decade descent? I don’t see it. From where I stand, the descent has already happened. What’s unfolding now isn’t the beginning—it’s reinforcement. It’s strategy. By 2026, I don’t believe we’ll be watching a quiet restructuring. We’ll be witnessing the full implementation of a system already designed to exclude.
The elections in 2026? They won’t just be flawed. They’ll be farce. Entire populations—women, non-white communities, queer people—will have already been written out of democratic participation through bills and executive orders. And healthcare and education won’t collapse with spectacle, they’ll erode silently, state by state. And still, the pain will be real, and the damage systemic.
Red states will execute women for abortions, regardless of cause. That’s not hyperbole—it’s the natural conclusion of what’s already on the books. They’ll reintroduce racial segregation under euphemisms like “special schools” or “parental rights.” And while these measures appear regional now, they are templates—blueprints for national replication.
And yes, they’ll leave the UN. Not out of isolationism, but to rid themselves of accountability. The exits are already being prepared, diplomatically justified as sovereignty, but practically meant to sever every remaining check.
I read the Critical Resistance piece, and I respect its clarity. Still, from my position—outside the U.S., looking in—it already looks like a canyon fully entered, not one still being skirted.
And I don’t look in as a neutral observer. I look in as a German citizen. My generation was asked—no, expected—to carry the burden of our country’s past. Not just as remembrance, but as responsibility. A commitment: Nie wieder. Never again.
We were told to study how it happened—not just that it did. How bureaucracy enabled it. How silence protected it. How exhaustion and fear made people complicit. How swiftly the loss of rights becomes normalized when it’s targeted, incremental, and shrouded in the language of values.
And that’s why I can’t treat what’s happening in the U.S. as theoretical or distant. I’ve seen the signs before—not in real time, but in textbooks, in family stories, in the silence that followed.
The machinery of Project 2025 isn’t just political—it’s familiar. Not identical. But echoing.
So I don’t speak from panic. I speak from knowing.
And I sit with the same question the article ends on: Can we choose differently?
Is there still a way to resist that doesn’t rely on spectacle, but on clear-eyed refusal? Can it begin in the quiet places—through naming, truth-telling, community-building—before even more doors close?
I don’t know how much time is left.
I only know that I won’t fall silent.
And if you're still willing—I'd like to ask you: What resistance feels possible right now, for you, from where you stand?
My grandfather was a resister in Nazi Germany. Killed in 1935. My teenage mother was able to escape to Britain. I take what’s happening incredibly seriously. The parallels are stark and terrifying.
Maya, thank you for sharing that. I carry your words with care—and your family’s courage even more so.
Your grandfather’s resistance, and your mother’s escape, are not distant history to me—they’re reminders of what conscience can cost, and how vital it is to act early, even when the outcome is uncertain.
The parallels are stark. And terrifying. But knowing that you, too, are watching with clarity and carrying this history forward—that matters. Deeply.
Thank you. From your words you seem to be a highly thoughtful and reflective individual. I fear for the country but rest assured that many people here are pushing back to try and prevent a further death spiral. Thank you you for sharing your thoughts and I share many of them. Nie wieder.
Tom, thank you for your kind words. I am aware, that many people are pushing back and give the best to their ability in trying to prevent more damage to happen, yet I fear without the support of at least 25-30% of that part who actually elected this regime the numbers are currently not yet in favor. What gives me hope is that they are growing daily and that the push back is getting broader and broader. I might be German, yet my heart is beating North American and I'll try to support resistance in any way I can from my place on the other side of the Atlantic. Nie Wieder ist Jetzt. Never Again is Now.
This is the first article you have offered that I significantly disagree with. The timeline is way too long. The open discrimination is already here, and the rise in homelessness is also. The destruction of Medicaid is occuring within that year, as is much of the social security dismantling. The economy is in that recession everyone predicted now and will be a great depression soon as employees are fired, and New Deal protections are eliminated THIS YEAR. The only reason people think the economy is not in areesion now is that they are giving totally unjustirfied credibility to official statistics that are fraudulent like in any other authoritarian state. The only thing Trump told the truth about, the destroyed economy, was Biden's biggest lie and attempt to gaslight the public and win on Bidenomics as the inunent. Also, the parts about the federal reserve insist on the gold standard without incorporating the imminent plan to transfer government money to crypto scammers for "crypto reserves." Check out Gil Duran's work.
I appreciate you engaging so deeply with this. You’re absolutely right that many of these shifts are already happening—it’s part of why I wrote this. The timeline isn’t about when it begins, but about how it escalates. I’m not predicting but mapping the structure of what’s unfolding, so people can see the mechanisms behind the chaos and resist with clarity rather than despair.
Yes, thank you for your work. I have frequently recommended this substack as one of the best on actually resistance strategy and methods. Happy to talk on Signal sometime if you are interested. I knew this was Fascism in 2022, and came to the conclusion we couldn’t reverse the damage in 2023. I have been trying to resist and get people to prepare, which has been years of failed efforts and history repeating itself (with the liberal class self-deluding and misinforming the public about the gravity of the situation until it’s too late to even do harm reduction).
Recession* sorry, my touch screen is broken. Also, the courts have been completely destroyed. The kinds of things that I was seeing in the corruption of local and state courts were staggering over the last several years. I believe that civil rights haven't been essentially nullified through corruption and lack of enforcement as a prerequisite for fascism over the last several years. It's so severe and pervasive that it will shock you. I was actually relieved when propublica incontrovertibly exposed the depth and breadth of the Supreme Court corruption and its causes because I hoped that would be The catalyst for people finally realizing that our checks and balances had been destroyed. What you can see is the tip of the iceberg, and by the time you can see this much of the iceberg, the rest of it is enormous. So, we are already at that point, and a lot of journalists were just unable to inform people of many examples over the years due to Free press erosions. If you contact me, I could tell you All about it. I am an MA of public policy from central European University, and I left the US as a whistleblower in 2022.
I appreciate the point about the judiciary and the courts—especially at the state level. That erosion of trust and function has been under-reported, and it’s deeply connected to the broader dismantling. Thanks for this—really. You’ve added meaningful insight.
Yes, so much is already in motion. That’s why I framed this less as a timeline and more as a structure. The dates aren’t predictions, they’re a tool to show how quickly erosion can harden into permanence if we don’t intervene.
My husband tries to titrate how much information of this kind he acknowledges. But he has me, clanging pots and pans, bellowing out the warnings, making it harder for him to do so. Some tough decisions will eventually need to be made, because the 2025 reality is too dystopic for this gal.
Appreciate the urgency—just a reminder this isn’t a prediction, as noted at the top. It’s a narrative tool to help people recognize what’s unfolding and how it could escalate. The dates aren’t the story here.
Thanks for writing and sharing this. Much food for thought
Thanks so much for reading. That’s exactly what I hope for—that people leave with more to reflect on than they came in with.

This is total fiction. It won't take 10 years for all this to come to fruition. It's happening much faster.
